Our Girls Build team held many events this week! On April 17, we had our 2 hour Self Defense Workshop which taught girls basic self defense. The girls learned ways to get out from many common methods of assaulting women: grabbing from behind, choke holds, hair pulling, etc. We received positive feedback from the 21 girls that attended and many said that they feel more comfortable knowing the basic self defense skills they needed to defend themselves. On the same day, we had our Bake Sale! We held this bake sale help to fund the workshops we have been having this past month. Lastly, we had Part Two of our Stress Management Tools Workshop on April 18. Students got the experience of meditation, and were taught how to destress. We have been advertising for our upcoming workshops, like our Job Interview Workshop which is taking place this Monday! Along with this, I have been working on a CPR event for the community with a girl from our school. GBLA members will volunteer and help teach the community how to do hands-only-CPR. This was also was a booth at our Career Fair. The girls have been working hard these past months and are happy with all the positive feedback. Personally, joining Girls Build two years ago was probably one of the best decisions of my life. I enjoy getting involved in planning events for the school. It has brought me happiness to work with these lovely ladies and to see the happiness it brings to the students who participate!
